Persuasive Writing Reaps Rewards!

Students in the 5th grade have a writing section on the ACT Aspire state test that is given at the end of each school year.  They are to plan and write a five paragraph persuasive essay in 45 minutes.  If that’s not stressful enough, they do not know their prompt until they start the test.  After observing how the 5th graders were diligently working during the test and other teachers expressed to me, Mrs. Stringer, what they observed, I wanted to reward my students. Having 88 students would have been quite costly, so I decided to put their writing skills to the test and give them one last assignment.  They had to write a persuasive letter to their favorite fast food restaurant and convince them to send them a reward for all their hard work not only on the ACT Aspire, but the months of preparing for the writing section.  I’m proud to announce that  Aa'Myah Wilson received a reward from Domino’s Pizza.  The students' letters were sent to the public relations person at the corporate office.  Aa'Myah was awarded a bag of goodies with Domino’s logo, a $25 gift card, and a personal card written by the public relations person. We also received a  $100 gift card to buy pizza for the other students who are now in the 6th grade.  Thank You Domino’s for acknowledging our students at Norphlet Middle School!!!
